Yeah, I saw this coming a while ago. It will be a normal occurrence soon enough as we go toward a self-driving car. I like the idea of it because it can open up the doors to obtain a lot of useful data, including if the crash is the drivers fault or not, but at the same time it is a little too big brother for me.

All cars have the recorders. What the article called EDRs or whatever. The issue is that they only keep a couple of seconds worth of information before and after a crash.

These things can keep a lot more information for a lot longer. The only concern is warranty denial and in all honesty it is bull to begin with. They can deny a claim on a million and one different basis and there is not much you can do about it. You are kind of at their mercy. The real bull is that they build these cars specifically for speed and performance and then spend millions advertising them to you in that manner, but the second you try to use it in that manner they tell you that you used it outside of the parameters that it was designed for.

That would be like the spork people telling customers who used it as a spoon are at fault if anything happens because it was only to be used as a fork even though they specifically designed and commercialized it as a dual purpose utensil.

Okay, I am done ranting now. Laughing Out Loud

I couldn't agree with you more. Even though the article said they had no problem running the cars on the track. They certainly would attempt to deny a claim of warranty for failure under stress on the street while running the car "hard". There's already court case history of using a cars computer to verify conditions immediately before and after an accident. SOOO. We now know where all this is headed. "Black Boxes" in all cars. With access to all the info by Big Brother.

Eventually cars will be loaded with ECU's which will be able to be located by remote from following Police vehicles... Sad

Then at a later date they will govern the cars so they won't be able to speed no more than 10MPH according to the speed limit.... Sad

Old school cars will be in high demand.....
